My work often is defined by lines, a result of my background as an architect. These lines create a framework in my paintings and sculptures that inform all my other moves. To create spatial perspectives, I use lines at an angle. For me, these sometimes chaotic perspectives create a sense of disorder which allows the viewer to become an active participant in my art. In this current group of paintings, I have explored new materials and methods to create and expand these perspectives. Paint drips, oil sticks, sewn canvas and cold wax medium are spontaneously incorporated, liberating the structures in the paintings to become more abstract.
“New shows for Elizabeth Ferrill and Jeff Horton opening at Michael Warren Contemporary share imagery from urban scenery. Horton renders the abstracted lines of the architectural framework under the skin of buildings. It’s a well-matched pairing, answering the question of what artists might look at while walking through a high-rise city environment.” Froyd, Susan. “Art Attack: Find Art for All in Denver and Beyond” Westword, 17 August 2022.
